Did You Go Black Friday Shopping?

Arleen De La Cruz (12), “I went Black Friday shopping with my parents to help them choose what gifts to get my brothers and sisters from Christmas.”

Black Friday became common in the 1960’s after people in Philadelphia began a shopping escapade the day after Thanksgiving. It was originally going to be called “Big Friday," but the representatives of Philadelphia decided on the name “Black Friday." It was known for the beginning of Christmas shopping season. Although Black Friday is not an official holiday, it is one of the most popular days to buy great Christmas gifts for a bargain. It’s not only a day to shop for gifts for friends and family, but also a day to buy yourself the items that you have been yearning for. Black Friday gets hectic, but so many people are willing to go through the dangers just to buy the items that will make a perfect Christmas gift for a loved one. Last Friday, many of our fellow panthers were brave enough and went shopping on Black Friday to buy essentials and gifts.

Shawn De La Pena (9),

“I bought a coffee maker, because it was on sale and I decided I might as well get it for myself.”

Gabriela Rivas (10), “On Black Friday I got beats and boots. I went shopping at Macy’s.”

Daniela Rivas (10), “I went Black Friday shopping and got a Play Station 4 and a lipstick from Lime Crime.”

Christmas Gift Ideas

'Holiday, oh holiday and the best one of the year!' Winter is coming which means it's Christmas time! Where we celebrate by putting a tree in our house, decorating it, and putting gifts under it. It is a time to have fun with your family and friends and to show how much you care by giving them gifts. It doesn't matter about how much it costs; all that matters is that it came from the heart, which is priceless. Here are some gift ideas that will be great for all recipients. Some of these you can do yourself!

If know someone that loves to draw or write and are scratching your head wondering what to get them for Christmas, here are some ideas that might inspire you! You can always give them new sketch pads or journals so they can always have more to fill in with drawings and ideas. If they have artist's/writer's block, you can always make a small book filled with drawing ideas and writing prompts.

The Athlete:

You're stuck on what to give your athletic friend/family member for Christmas? You can give them some weights, sports bottles, or even a gift card to their favorite gym. OR you can create their own book filled with motivational quotes to help them when working out. Just fold some papers and staple them together. You can look up quotes from online or make them yourself! You can do it!

The Foodie:

We all know that one guy or gal that loves food- who doesn't? You can get them some gift cards to their favorite restaurants or you can make their very own food 'Survival Kit.' All you have to do is to get a small box (Shoe box, or you can buy one) and fill it with their favorite snacks. If you want to go all out, you can always decorate the box to really look like a survival kit!

The Music Lover:

We all have that friend/family member who really loves music. If you're stumped on what to get them, you could never go wrong with getting them their favorite band merchandise. ie: band shirts, posters, albums, etc. You could also make a poster collage of their favorite song quotes!
