PV Wrestlers Hold Their Own at SM Tournament

Last night’s grueling wrestling tournament at SMHS lasted over four hours, but the Panthers were well prepared due to their notorious 3hr/day - 6day/week training regimen. Of the six schools attending, PV went up against Dinuba (Tulare County), Clovis (Fresno County), and Servite (Anaheim). Although there were many individual victories, as a team PV was only able to beat Clovis. “I think we did well considering how highly ranked our competitors were. Next time I know we will do even better!”

Does Santa Still Come to Your House?

The hype is real! There are only 22 days until Christmas. Everyone is getting ready to buy their family and friends Christmas presents, sing Christmas songs, and decorate their houses with pretty lights. Most importantly, the kids are anxiously awaiting Santa’s visit! Unfortunately the time will come when Santa stops paying those kids a visit and they learn the truth. When did you get the heartbreaking news?

-Melanie Naraval

Alisha (9) says, “When I was around 8 years old, I was talking to my parents about how excited I was for Santa to come and give me my presents. When I was done talking, they flat out explained to me that Santa and the Tooth Fairy didn’t exist. I was really heartbroken after that.”

Nick Brady (12) shares, "What? No. I never stopped believing. It's a myth that Santa isn't real."

Alberto Aragon (10) explains, “When I was younger, I just never believed in Santa Claus. I really didn’t care who he was. I had always seen my parents buy me my own presents. My older brother told me Santa was fake when I was 5 years old.”

Hannah Garnica (11) tells us, “When I was around 11 years old, my sister told me Santa Claus was fake. I was really sad when she told me, because I truly believed in Santa.”

FFA Welding Team Strikes First Arc

The FFA’s first welding team practice took place yesterday afterschool from 3-5pm. About 12 metal loving panthers showed up to sharpen their high temp skills and get the deets on this year’s competitions. Ms. Linne explained the team has plenty of time to recruit new members and prepare for their first event on March 12th in Chico (Nor Cal). The overnight trip will not only expose welders to the heat of battle but also treat them to a tour of the Chico State College campus.

At yesterday’s meeting it was also revealed that the contestants would have to do more than just weld. They will also be tested on their knowledge of welding processes, including power sources and consumables. Additionally, they will have to provide a portfolio and resume that will be applied to their total score.

The team is actively recruiting new members of all skill levels including first timers. See Ms. Linne for more info in room 207.

“These welding competitions really get kids fired up to learn more about welding. They also prepare students for the job market.” –Ms. Linne

“My Dad is a professional welder, so I pretty much grew up around welding. That’s all I have ever had in mind as a career.” –Steven Cervantes (11)
