Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Marino

It's nice to choose a teacher and put them on the spot. You never know, some of our teachers here can be really cool! Mr. Marino, is a teacher here at PVHS and is currently teaching English 3, British Literature, and English 2. He is an amazing teacher and both funny and outgoing in his career. He is also adviser to the California Scholarship Federation (CSF), a club that recognizes students for their academic achievements.

Mr. Marino explains why he loves his career as an English teacher and his thoughts on this school by saying, "My job is different every day; there is always something new! I love PV because I am one of the teachers who helped start this school and I'm very proud of that," he says. "The movie ‘Dead Poets’ Society’ inspired me to become a teacher because I want to inspire students.”

Mr. Marino considers himself a great teacher, "I am entertaining! I like to make people laugh; they learn that way," he claims. Way before becoming a teacher, Mr. Marino was a waiter as well as a band member. It’s interesting to see where people have come from and why they are where they are now.

App of the Week: Grades

Grades is an app that is a more convenient form of Aeries. It includes features that can calculate your grades and notify you when your teacher updates your grade. It eliminates the hassle of having to log in every time you want to check your grades.

"I think it's a lot easier than Aeries, and it's not time consuming. I think it’s a pretty handy app."

-Jesse Lara (12)

You log in with the school district which would be Santa Maria Joint and choose both options. Then enter your student ID and password.

It shows you your current grades.

The calculator under each posted assignment helps you see what your grade could be. Let's say you got a C on a test, but you wanted to see what your grade would have been if you had gotten an A. You would slide the bar and it will show you what your grade would be.

"I like the app, because it makes it easier to check my grades. It's also less stressful."
