Holiday Desserts

The holidays are just around the corner and there are so many desserts that help us get more into the holiday spirit! Typically, these desserts are warm because it is fall or winter time near the holidays. Desserts such as hot chocolate and pumpkin pie are known to be the most popular desserts on chilly days. Some of us prefer to make our own desserts rather than to buy them because we can make the desserts the way that we like them.

Klevor Paxtor (9) “My favorite holiday dessert is pumpkin pie with chocolate syrup and whip cream on it and it always tastes amazing.”

Ana Reyes (12) “I like to make hot chocolate with family and friends. I use the Nestle hot chocolate packets mixed with milk and heat it up on the stove. I top off my hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream on a cold night to keep me warm while watching a movie.”

-Jasmin Ramos

Angel Estevez (10) “My favorite holiday dessert is Arroz Con Leche and I put shaved cinnamon on it because it makes it taste really good.”

Teresa  (11) “I like having Arroz Con Leche with bread. I add cinnamon to it and a little bit of sugar. The only way I’ll drink milk is if it’s with Arroz Con Leche.”

Interview with a Panther

Have you ever wanted to find out who was the soul behind the amazing school mascot? Well you can keep wondering because I'm not here to tell you that. But what I will tell you is the insight on what it takes to be the panther. Although it doesn't look like much, there's actually a lot of factors into being a good Pioneer Valley mascot.

"It takes a lot of dedication and being willing to sit in it for hours. It’s really hot inside of the costume. A lot of people touch you and the same kid will find you and hug you a million times. It’s really fun though, you have to be weird and have some sick dance moves." -Panther

"I think the Panther is funny because they do weird things, but I think it’s cool because they give motivation to do things and pump people up." Dinora Rojas (12)

"I love the panther because I thinks it’s cool. I wish I could have done it." Kayla Neal (12)

District Considers 1,900 Foot-Long Fence

Will Pioneer Valley add to its perimeter fencing? According to the Santa Maria Times, The District is considering building an $80,000 to $100,000 fence along the west perimeter after years of complaints from locals living behind the school. These complaints are due to the fact that students can easily climb up the fences we currently have (either during or after school hours) and proceed to cause damage to their yards, intentionally committing the crime of trespassing and vandalism.

While the project has yet to be approved it has been met with mixed responses. While most agree that something needs to be done, many question whether a chain-link fence is the solution. Another complaint is that it’s just a waste of money that the school district could use on other projects, such as the future performing arts theater that’s currently under construction.

As of right now the project is still under consideration. For more information check out the following link: http://santamariatimes.com/news/fence-separating-high-school-from-homes-a-problem-neighbors-say/article_2e651646-c582-550f-a9f3-3d76bcd1e9a2.html
