Reading; Enter Worlds that will Change Your Life

Everyone has a different taste in reading. Some like YA (young adult) and others love paranormal. Some prefer fiction and others, nonfiction. Reading helps improve your ability to communicate with other people. It can change the way you see the world and see the people around you. A book can open you to a new adventure where you will meet new characters with new ideas and enter worlds that will change your life.

Dalia Montiel, 12, was an avid reader when she was younger but hasn’t found a lot of time for it lately. More classes, more homework, and no car to drive herself to the library make reading a challenge. When she was younger she would beg her mom to take her to the library. The main librarian greeted Dalia every time she went because she was there almost every weekend. Then she even volunteered at the library for about three or four years. Dalia like to reads actual physical copies of books over e-readers or audio.

Aliyeah Navarro, 12, used to read middle grade. But she wanted to challenge her vocabulary. So one day she decided to read Pride and Prejudice and helped her with her English. She read from her school library and later from the public library. She prefers the actual physical copy of book over an audio or digital. Reading is a good way to improve your English. It helps you to connect to characters in the book

Bertha Orozco, 12, would read books in the car because she was always on the go. She thinks audio books are okay but it’s not the same experience as actually having the book in your hand. Bertha recommends finding a book genre you are interested in and not something you’re forced to read.

Dalia, “My favorite book genre is Mythical Fiction and my favorite book is “Before I Fall” by Lauren Oliver. Just read whatever interests you. Read any book that you can see yourself liking. Just read and from there you can find yourself a new perspective about the world. There is no secret to reading.”

Bertha, “YA fiction is my favorite and my favorite book is “A Child Called It” by Dave Pelzer.”

Aliyeah Navarro, “My favorite genre is Classical and my favorite book is “Gone with the Wind” by Margaret Mitchell, but my favorite author is Jane Austin. Reading is a great way to past the time. Definitely don’t judge a book by its cover. ”

PV’s Security Staff

We all know that Pioneer Valley has an amazing environment for our students. Our security staff here at PVHS are here to make sure that the students are protected and secure. And they are greatly appreciated. I was able to ask 3 of our security staff a few questions, such as what it's like to work here at Pioneer Valley and what they like about the school.

-Jessica Cervantes Morales

"Well I've worked here for 4 years and I love this school, honestly. These students are like my kids. I feel like we have the best administration staff. It’s amazing here because everybody works for the good of the cause. We're strong role models. What we're trying to do here is to send kids with a good education out into the real world. For the most part, every individual that attends Pioneer Valley has the drive for success. It's worthwhile for kids to ask us for understanding the things they need support or help with. "    -J.R.(right)

"It's really interesting and rewarding. I love and enjoy working with the kids and what's more rewarding about working here is watching the students develop into successful persons and to see them graduate. I've worked here since 2004...I am the founder of PVHS...joking.  They're the best students to work with, I just wish to guide them through their futures." - Aaron (left)

"It feels good to work here because I enjoy the students. I love the feeling of making a difference in someone's life. I like Pioneer Valley because working with the staff and students is wonderful, it's really wonderful. We have good students, although I do greatly feel that a lot of students need more counseling; each of them need someone to reach out to them in any way possible. Overall, it's an amazing job and I love to work with the students." - Xochi
