Club Spotlight: Black Student Union
Black Student Union Club is a club where students gather to study more about history, take tours around to different colleges- mostly colleges with black communities, and learn the different aspects about the colleges and college life. They meet every Tuesday in room 603, and are still taking in people, if you are willing to join. Here are what some members say about the club:
-Joana Yanez
Mr. Harmon, the advisor of the club says, "I started as an advisor at Righetti 15 years. When I transferred to PV I brought it with me. On occasion the club helps them gain focus and that is very rewarding."
Club president Kayla Neal (12) said, "Right now we have planned on going to a regional conference in Fresno. In this club we learn about college, history, and leadership. I really like how we go on field trips and learn a lot of different things."
BSU is a small club but hoping to grow, they are always taking in new members.

Japan Revealed Part 3: The Japanese House
A traditional Japanese house is made of wood but today's Japanese home usually has a western style with wooden flooring. I will introduce some unique points we can see in Japanese houses.
-Emika Morita
-kotatsu-
In the winter, the Japanese use a heated table called a 'kotatsu' when they sit in the living room. The top and side of a kotatsu are covered with a futon-blanket to keep heat in and a wooden board is placed on top of the futon so that the kotatsu can be used as a table.
-tatami-
A Japanese room has at least
one room that is covered with
mats which is called a tatami
and is made from woven rush
grass. A tatami floor is cool in
the summer and warm in the
winter. It remains fresher than
carpet during Japan's humid
months. The Japanese
generally don't use chairs with
the tatami. So people either sit directly on the tatami or on flat cushions called zabton. This is why people take off their shoes when entering a Japanese house; they do not want to dirty the cushions.
-futon-
Today sleeping in a western bed has become popular in Japan. However, in my Japanese bedroom, I used to lay out the futon mattress at night to sleep. A futon is folded up in the morning and stored in oshiire, a Japanese closet.
