Pumpkin Carving and Design

Jack O’ Lanterns have been a Halloween tradition for centuries being displayed all over the world. Jack O’ Lanterns came to America from Irish immigrants. They originated from an old Irish folk tale about a man named “Stingy Jake.” People would carve scary faces into turnips or potatoes to ward off this evil spirit. When the legend came to America, native home of the pumpkin, they discovered how much better it is to use pumpkins to carve scary faces. To learn more about Stingy Jack’s story go to the link below.

This amazing pumpkin was done by my mom, Angela Perez. This pumpkin alone took her all day to finish. The spirit of Halloween is always alive at my house from pumpkin designs to decorating my whole house. This pumpkin design was inspired by Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas.

This is my other pumpkin that I decided to do in dedication to Tim Burton’s scariest couple, Jack and Sally.  This pumpkin took me two days and required using a tooth pick to paint most of it.

I created this pumpkin and it took me about three hours to complete. Another Tim Burton movie inspired pumpkin, The Corpse Bride. Carving pumpkins is a long and hard thing to do especially when you decide to do detailed pieces. Yet, it is fun for the whole family to do every Halloween.

World’s Largest Ice-Cream Sundae

Tomorrow the Link Crew will attempt to create the World’s largest ice-cream sundae. It’s free to all freshmen at the soccer field and will start at 1 o'clock after school. “This is an activity just for the freshmen for surviving the second progress report,” Mrs. Baarstad explains. Their goal is to have the longest and biggest ice cream. “We’re going to have a lot of fun so hopefully there’s a lot of freshman coming. Did I mention it’s free?”

3 Must See Scary Movies

Monster House, directed by Gil Kenan, is about three teenagers that discover that their neighbor's house is a living, breathing monster. It's a fun, animated movie that the whole family can watch.

Halloween, directed by John Carpenter, is about a murderer who started his maniac career when he attacks his family. After being in a mental hospital for 15 years, he escapes and returns to go after many people in a very psychopathic way. This is a real slasher horror film. Although

it’s a bit gruesome,

it is a great film to

watch if you want to

experience the

fear of Halloween.

Hocus Pocus, directed by Kenny Ortega, is about three witch sisters that get resurrected on a Halloween night and it's up to two teenagers, a young girl, and a cat to stop the region of terror. It's a classic Halloween film that has humor and a nice Halloween feel to it too.
