What is Your Best Halloween Experience?

Jacklyn Cruz (9) says, "My funniest Halloween experience was last year. I was already out trick or treating and all the sudden it started raining. I tried to avoid getting wet, so I covered myself up real good walking back home. When out of nowhere, a car passes by close to me and splashes puddle water all over me."

Julian Bautista (11) "Dude, wow. Going back, my best Halloween experience was last year. I remember how it was raining all night. Not many people went out trick or treating, but I did. That was a big advantage for me because everyone felt bad and gave me extra or even all the candy that they had. It was worth getting all wet."

Do you remember any of the past Halloweens you've celebrated? All the good and bad times that you've had on All Hallows' Eve? All those goodies you've received by simply knocking at people's doors and saying the phrase "Trick or Treat?" Or maybe a Halloween party, having fun with friends or family. Here are some of our Panthers favorite Halloween experiences:

David Vazques (12) "My funniest Halloween experience was about 10 years ago. I was 7 years old dressed up as Superman and my parents were superheroes too. My mom was Wonder Woman and my dad was Batman. There were many people dressed the same way. When I went to knock on a door by myself, I came back and found myself walking with two strangers who I thought were my parents."

Jazmine Guzman (9) "Back when I was 6, I went to this place that I can't remember well because I was so young. All of us little kids lined up to get candy from some freaky statue. The statue grabbed your hands whenever you would try to grab candy from it. Everyone was so scared that they cried and left. I wasn't, so I just grabbed all the candy that those other kids didn't get. I was so lucky."

PV Smash Undefeated

PV Smash is considered the best Super Smash Bros crew in the 805 area and is undefeated against all other crews. PV Smash has won 5 other crew battles before this Saturday's contest. The group consisted of: Euclid "Winged Kuriboh" Peregin (10), Vincent "Color" Nuno (10), Edson "Eots" Baes (11), Brian "El Don" Garcia (12), and Ralph "Suspect" Soria (10).

Our Smash club beat the Orcutt/SMHS crew by 1-0. Steve Haro, PV Smash President and Tournament Manager claims, "It was the closest we ever came to losing."

All of the trophies won by PV Smash at previous tournaments. The visual representation of their undefeated record.

According to Haro, a sponsored player was put on the team against them, "His name is River and he's sponsored by MMM Gaming who are associated with MLG, or Major League Gaming." One of our star players, Brian Garcia, successfully defeated this sponsored player. "It really puts pressure on you that we are the best and that we are undefeated. It does make you want to do your best and to keep the title though. I really didn't want to let my teammates and Mr. Killian down," says Garcia.

Another MVP player, Ralph Soria, took out the last two players from Orcutt's best with only 1 life left. Afterwards, PV Smash beat the Allan Hancock College crew and won Best Crew at the Leisure Time Games Halloween Horror Games Day. The final scores were:

1-0 vs. SMHS/Orcutt Academy

3-0 vs. Allan Hancock College Crew

Homecoming Dance Portraits Part 1 of 4

The Homecoming Dance was a great success and there to document the event was the staff of the Effect (PV’s yearbook). They managed to take nearly everyone’s portrait and print them out on location for free. The photos will be made available for download here in the Panther Tales over the rest of the week. By simply clicking on the photo and then right clicking, you will have the option to save the file. This is the case with ALL photos published in the Panther Tales. Additionally, you may purchase a printed copy for $5 from the Effect. Simply pay your $5 at the business office and then bring your receipt to Mr. Howard in room 205. This offer is available for the dance portraits as well as ANY photo seen in the Panther Tales.
