Homecoming Candidates Tell All, Part 3

In this third installment of the Homecoming Queen Interviews, Ashley Camarena-Morales, Skyler Killian, and Andrea Ortega share their experiences and motivation for becoming Homecoming Queen. Make sure to vote this Friday, October 23rd, 7am-3pm. Phone numbers and candidate numbers will be announced on voting day. Here are their statements:

Skyler Killian

“I’m definitely blessed to be a Panther. I used to go Righetti, but it wasn’t for me. When I came to PV, everyone was so nice and so sweet. I’m very proud to be a Panther. I had a lot of fun at Homecoming. I remember everyone on the dance floor starting a huge dance battle. I hope 2016 starts one again. Usually every class has their rivalry, but for one night everyone comes together.  I hope everyone has a really good night. I know 2016 is going to bring a lot of spirit.”

Andrea Ortega

“I decided to run for Homecoming Queen because when I was younger, I didn’t have a Quinceañera or a Sweet Sixteen. So that moment of walking and dancing with my dad would give me the honor to remember him by. Being Homecoming Queen would fulfill my dream as a little girl and walk with him for the first time. I’ve never been to a Homecoming dance but I expect to have fun, meet new people and dance.”

Ashley Camarena-Morales

"I've wanted to run for this since freshman year. It seems like lots of fun and I've always wanted to walk down the field with my grandma. I haven’t gone to a PV Homecoming dance but I expect to find a date on the dance floor."

Ginger Mafia's Musical Adventure

-Emilia Martinez

Last Wednesday night, my friend Melia Patterson (11), my mom, and I (Emilia Martinez) AKA the Ginger Mafia, drove down to LA to the Belasco Theatre to see one of our favorite bands. We got there early and to our surprise, it wasn't packed with people, at all. So we waited a while near the stage and did some exploring. I looked up at the ceiling and saw how breathtaking it was.

At the very end, we went to the stage to get a picture with the set. While hanging around, we saw the guitarist walking around and talking to some of the fans. Even though I looked like I hadn't slept in four days, we asked for a picture and talked to him for a bit.  In this pic I'm on the left, Melia is in the middle, and guitarist, Marc Cambell, is on the right.

Finally, MisterWives came on. We screamed and jumped up to the edge of the balcony. They kicked their performance off by singing a few songs and got everyone pumped up. The whole time, Melia would pinch me when Mandy, the lead singer, would hit a high note and give us goose bumps.

The next band, WATERS, also had an interesting sound to their songs. They are definitely one of our favorites now. Their songs really make you happy and make you want to dance.

We went up to the balcony seats and watched the first performance by Cruisr. They had a very unique sound that drew us in and made us sway to the beat. They have a feel-good vibe with great lyrics.

As we were about to leave the stage, I saw a flower that MisterWives had been handing out to audience members and I grabbed it. We wanted more mementos to remember this amazing night, so when we saw that the lead singer of WATERS was signing posters, Melia got one of those and I got an autograph from the saxophonist of MisterWives.

What Are You Going to be Rocking Homecoming Night?

Homecoming is an amazing event that you can get all dressed up for. For the seniors, it is their final year to attend Homecoming, so that makes it all the more special. Guys don’t have much trouble getting their suits ready and they are usually rented, but for the girls it’s another story. They have so many options to choose from. There are tight dresses, long dresses, short dresses, flowy dresses, and the list goes on. The dress that represents you the best is the one that will make you stand out on the dance floor.
