Homecoming Candidates Tell All, Part 2

Homecoming is a tradition that has grown throughout the years at PV. This year, all of the female candidates are more than worthy of the crown. They are: Ashley Camarena-Morales, April Chavez, Hannah Diaz, Alana Gorsi, Skyler Killian, and Andrea Ortega. The Panther Tales was able to get an interview with 3 of them and hopes to be able to talk to the others for tomorrow’s edition. Make sure to vote this Friday, October 23rd, 7am-3pm. Phone numbers and candidate numbers will be announced on voting day. Here are their statements:

April Chavez

It just looks so fun! I get to talk in front of the school and make random people smile. I mean, I already love doing that, but now I can do it with a cute little tiara. My Freshman Homecoming was amazing, but my dress was funny and I wore some nice beat up Converse. I just danced all night. I expect this year’s dance to be amazing with, hopefully, good vibes. I have my dress and I’m ready to dance the night away.

Hannah Diaz

My mom was Homecoming queen when she was in high school, so that is probably my biggest motivation. The funniest experience I’ve had at a homecoming dance was how fast my heels came off when we got on the dance floor (my feet were killing me). For this year’s dance, I expect to make the best of memories with everyone and we all just dance our little hearts out.

Alana Gorsi

I’ve wanted to run for queen since my freshman year, when my sister ran for queen during her senior year. A good experience I’ve had at Homecoming was just being on the dance floor and having a fun time with friends. For this year’s dance, I am expecting to have a good time. Nothing too extreme; but just to simply have fun.

Shelter Drive Collection Contest Underway

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month! This is a perfect time to increase awareness and to help victims and children who are affected by domestic violence.

The SHARe  (Safe Healthy Adolescent Relationship) Club is sponsoring a 4th period class competition to collect items for our local domestic violence shelter. We will be collecting:

  • Non-perishable food (cans, jars and boxes)

  • Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.)

  • Cleaning supplies (cleanser, detergent, etc.)

  • Paper products (toilet paper, paper-towels, plates, etc.)

  • Baby products

The shelter drive started yesterday and will go through 30th. According to Dr. Katz, SHARe club adviser, you can bring any of the listed items above to your 4th period class where there should be a box dedicated to this competition. If your class has more items than any other class at the end of the month, you will win a doughnut party! Be sure to participate and help those in need!

Band Trip to LA Motivates All

-April Chavez

As the Panther Tales readers know, the Pioneer Valley Band took a trip to LA this past weekend where they performed their field show. They had a great time in LA and really did a 'Fantasmic' job. This is what some of the panthers thought of the trip, the show and the overall feeling.

Mrs. Haralson (Adviser for color guard)

“This was a great learning experience and my first competition with the PVHS band. Color guard did amazing I really do appreciate the level of effort and time they put in their work. The whole Pioneer Valley band and color guard really came together as a team and truly showed what panther pride was about!”

Alexia Deleon (Color Guard)

“It was a great experience, a great trip and many great schools! I loved watching all the different divisions. We were all pretty nervous, but we did really well!”

Christian Munoz (Band)

“It was cool to see a lot of great schools and PVHS did amazing, but we were in a pretty tough category. I loved many of the crazy props that were used.”

Mrs. Wehlander (Band Director)

“I am very proud of the accomplishment of both the band and color guard. We came down to LA to compete against 28 other bands in programs that are used to competitions like this every weekend. This was our 1st time competing in the SCOBOA tournament and we are bringing two trophies home and we placed 4th in our division.”
