Senior Year, Is it as Easy as They Say?

Senior year is supposed to be easy, right? Depends who you ask. You probably know someone who told you their senior year was a joke, often it is portrayed that way in the movies and on TV. But there is usually more to one’s senior year than just a reduced schedule.

Having a job, for example, can make your life a lot harder. It makes you feel like you have no time left to do anything. After school you go to work and then after work you go home, probably tired and ready for bed; but then you realize you have homework and house chores that you have not done.

It’s the same if you’re involved in a sport. It takes up a lot of your time and can be a source of stress. Relationships can also take up a lot of time and almost certainly cause stress. Senior year can be easy for some, but if you’re taking hard classes and involved in sports and or work, you are probably feeling STRESSED!

Angelika Pasion (12), “Senior year is stressful. It’s so serious because there’s a lot of things you need to worry about like college applications, maintaining good grades, and all at the same time you are applying for scholarships and completing your school work.”

Adriana Apraucio (12), “I think that senior year is about having fun. My senior year has been great because the football games are fun and I love how spirited our class of 2016 is! I’m so excited to go to Six Flags for grad night, Hawaii for grad week, and Prom with great friends.”

Giselle Gutierrez (12), “I have Senioritis. I’m stressing because I recently started filling out college applications. I’ve applied to eight schools so far. I have five AP classes and my grades are still pretty good but I’ve been procrastinating about applying for scholarships. I just kind of stopped doing everything. I’m used to juggling school and cheer because I’ve been doing it for a while now. I only work on the weekends so it doesn’t give me much free time.”

Michael Ruiz (12), “Chilling out in classes are cool. I mostly have all electives so my senior year is easy. I like hanging out with friends because I have a lot of free time. Senior year is going to fly by fast.”

Eddie Mendez (right, 12), “It is stressful because my classes are really hard and everything is passing by really fast. We’re already in October! I’m sad that that our final year in high school will be ending soon.”

Anthony Ilaban (left, 12), “Honestly, senior year is stressful. Its stressing being in two clubs and having an AP class. I have very little time to catch up on work and such.”

Japan Revealed, Part 1

Japan is a wonderful country but surprisingly different from the United States. My name is Emika Morita and I am an exchange student form Okinawa, Japan. In this article I will describe the differences between the two countries with regard to restaurant service:

Since there are no tips - there's no reason for you to be tied to a single waiter. At most Japanese restaurants, anyone can help you any time.

In Japan, a tip is considered demeaning. It's inappropriate to tip at a restaurant. Amazingly, this doesn't decrease the level of service at all. You will find the staff are extremely diligent.

If you need something you are expected to summon staff by saying "sumimasen"(excuse me). In fact you can yell it if you need to. Many people enjoy this because staff are at your beck and call. No need to wait for your waiter to notice you need something.

What Were Your Favorite Toys?

Toys were one of the most important things in your childhood. Do you remember bringing a Barbie Doll to the store when your parents to you grocery shopping, so that you didn’t have to cry about how bored you were. Or when you went to the park, you brought your favorite Star Wars toy, pretending that you were a Storm Trooper blasting the other kids’ toys. Here are some Panthers and their sentiments regarding the childhood toys that they grew up playing with:
