Hancock Career Day

Last Friday high school students from all over the county were invited to the annual Career Exploration Day at Allan Hancock College.  The free event tried to match future employees with employers and the educators who will help prepare them for their new career. There were about 130 Panthers in attendance.

Representatives from more than 70 different companies, including employers from manufacturing, agriculture, law enforcement, the military, civil service and the medical field, were there to talk specifics about their industry and the education it requires for employment.  In addition, representatives from the college’s various academic and career technical education departments such as welding, public safety, nursing, business, culinary arts and more were also available to talk about corresponding courses and career options.

“Our goal with this career event is to make sure our students and residents know that excellent jobs are available locally and beyond,” said Luis Sanchez, associate superintendent/vice president, academic affairs.

Varsity Panthers Take Big Hit Friday, Knights Win 45-7

This past Friday, Panthers suffered a disappointing loss to our cross-town rival, St. Joseph, 45-7. The scoring drive was a combination of Jose Garcia's 45-yard run down to the 5-yard line and the TD run by Jacob Salinas #22. It was St. Joe's homecoming night, which made this a huge win for them. “We could have done better, it should’ve been a closer game” says Isaac Renteria #88. “We have to improve and just be ready to play Cabrillo.” Says Leo Partita #81. This Friday, the Panthers go up against the 1-6 Cabrillo Conquistadores at Lompoc HS.
