ROP Conducts Pig Autopsy
"My favorite departments while job shadowing were the Critical Care Unit (CCU), Emergency Room (ER), and the OR (Operating Room). I'm definitely going to pursue a job in the medical field. It's always been a passion of mine to help others medically." -Angelica Honrada (12)
"I've watched a surgery while job shadowing where a man had his knee replaced with a metal, prosthetic knee. There was also a man that got his nose cartilage replaced with rib cartilage to fix the damage of the collapsing nose cartilage which prevented him from being able to breathe properly. I want to work in either the emergency room or with babies." -Ali Castaniaga (12)
Last Thursday and Friday, Ms. Barata's ROP students performed autopsies on multiple little pigs. In the class, the students study the human body, and shadow jobs at the hospital 3 days a week. They've learned all the body systems, which leads to this forensic lab in pathology. The students are given a dead pig, and they must figure out how it died. The steps they go through in order to find the cause of death are the same steps that occur during real autopsies for humans. One of the groups had discovered that their pig had been punctured through the liver and the abdominal cavity. The purpose of this lab was to educate the ROP students on real life autopsies and to have an understanding of internal body parts, organs, intestines, etc. It was a taste of the real world and the real tasks that the students are planning to pursue in the future.

Only 3 Weeks Left!
There are only three weeks left in the school year and it's going by fast! Finals week is coming up and there is so much to get caught up on these last few weeks in school. No matter it being getting your grades up or becoming a media mogul, there are so many things to do yet so little time! Here are some fellow panthers and what they're going to do in order to make it out alive these next few weeks.
-Alexis Dagar & Melanie Narval
"I will be surviving these last three weeks of school with a positive attitude. I have no worries that the school year is ending. I will be missing the seniors who are leaving this year to college next year. I know a lot of seniors so it makes me kind of sad to see them go."- Devon Alexander Fuller (11)
"Listening to music is how I can survive these last three weeks of school. I have no worries, I just want summer to start already! I will be missing my friends and the choir class." -Alyssa Thompson (11)
"I will be studying for finals and sleep as much as I can before the school year is over. The one thing I'll mostly miss is hanging out with my friends." -Gabriel Vargas (9)
