Panther Pal’s Host Hawaiian Dance

-Photos & Story by Jessica Pena

The Panther Pal dance is a yearly event held for the special education students. The dance is open to students from other schools so they can get to know our students and our school. This year students from Tommie Kunst Junior High came to celebrate at the dance. ASB plans the panther pal dance every year and this year they chose a Hawaiian theme.

“The dance this year means a lots to the kids because this is their first time being at a high school. This dance will help boost their confidence toward coming to high school. My students are from Tommie Kunst; they’re meeting new people and having fun.”

–Sam Kephart

“This dance is great. It gives them a chance to meet other people before coming to Pioneer. It makes them feel confident. It’s fun to watch the kids interacting with each other and dancing together.”

-Desiree Owens

“This is a great dance this year. It helps incoming special education students to get to know the school and the other students that they will be in classes with. This is our 2nd year coming to the Panther Pal dance. It’s an introduction for the students and help makes them feel a part of the school. The dance shows the good respect of the PV students who planed it.” – Jody Dowell

“We chose the Hawaiian theme because it was easier to plan and create lots of fun decorations with all of the colors. The dance went pretty good overall and I think it was better than last year. We had more kids come and they seemed like they were having more fun. The dance helps them interact with others and feel loved because they sometimes feel like the outcast.”

Powder Puff Tomorrow!

Powder Puff is a yearly thing where girls come together and separate by class to compete in a fierce game of football. Although, it is flag football that doesn’t stop them from being a little rough. There will be injuries and there would be broken hearts. There's penalties for unnecessary roughness but does that stop them? I don’t think so either. It originated in 1972 in Massachusetts, the name 'powder puff' comes from the powder puff used in cosmetics fro powdering. The sport was made to get the female population to get involved in athletics.

"The fact that it’s my senior yeah made me want to try out; I want to do all the things I can so I can have good memories. I think my team is doing GREAT! We are all working together and helping each other out. My expectations are that we will win the game!! My favorite part about powder puff is just being with the girls and making new friends! Also to learn new things and most of all, watching the boys be our cheerleaders"- Kayla Neal(12)

"I joined because I wanted to get closer to my class and to have fun. I expect to win because we are all working together and are looking pretty good. My favorite part is meeting new people, making friends and getting to know the guys"- Ashley Delaney(12)

"I did powder puff because I played last year and I loved it plus I always wanted to play football because of my brothers. The team is doing well and my expectation for the game is to slaughter the juniors. My favorite part of powder puff are the practices (minus the running part) and playing the game"

"I want to redeem myself for last year’s game; I only got to play the first 30 seconds because somehow I managed to break my knee and pull some minor tendons. I'm hoping to play longer than 30 seconds this year. The team is preparing and working hard to gain that win, we will fight strong until the last second. I hope we as a team succeed and make it a fun night to remember our senior year by. My favorite part is watching our wonderful cheerleaders perform and cheer us on during the game, its hilarious how the boys get really into their characters"- Ashley Camarena(12)
