Valedictorian and Salutatorian Announced

Being valedictorian means you're the highest academic ranking student of your graduating class. Salutatorian is the second highest academic ranking student. Both of these positions come with a lot of hard work and dedication. This year’s valedictorian and salutatorian are Manny Rolon and Giselle Gutierrez.

"It's been something that I've been reaching for since freshman year, it wouldn’t have been possible with the support of my peers and family. I hope I to continue my academic success in the future."

-Manny Rolon (Valedictorian 2016)

"When I found out I was super surprised. I thought I was tied with a lot of other people for second but it turned out that my score was .01 higher than the next person, so that was a shocker. My family motivated me through high school. My mom was always a straight A student when she went to school so she always expected the most out of me. I wanted to make them proud so I always strived to do my best."

-Giselle Gutierrez (Salutatorian 2016)

Asian Pacific Performances Continue Today

Today is the last Asian Pacific performance of the school year! Yesterday AP kicked it off with some cultural dances including a Hawaiian dance as well as tinikling which is a Filipino dance that involves maneuvering your feet around sticks in a specific beat. Today our dancers will be performing several hip hop dances all choreographed by fellow Panthers and alumni.

Being in Asian Pacific myself, it has been a great experience. Not only is Asian Pacific a club, but a family as well. I have made friends with so many talented people and I am really looking forward to being a part of the family again next year. With all those months of countless hours of practice, it will finally pay off when we make it to the stage. Long live, APC.

Panther's Got Talent Auditions Just a Week Away

It's that time of year where you can show off your talent! This year, instead of just singing, you can now dance and show off any other types of talent for Panther's Got Talent. Staff are now able to participate and take part in the show as well (after auditioning of course). Auditions are next Thursday (May 12) in the ASB room, so be ready to show off your talent!

"Panther's Got Talent is where PV students and teachers can express their talent in front of the school. Auditions will be held for 2 days, and we'll be picking the best 8 for the competition. Some advice for people who want to show us their talent is to not be too afraid and just be yourself." -Natalie Ramirez,

Panther's Got Talent's Coordinator (12)

Which Summer Movie?

There are so many branches of entertainment, from watching TV, to surfing the internet. However, there's nothing like a good-old fashioned movie! There are so many to choose from that everyone can find something to enjoy. Everyone has their favorite childhood films that they adored back in the day and even now. Some say that good things don't last forever however, Disney and Pixar decided to continue the fun and let teens relive their childhood with many amazing continuations of classic childhood films.

What summer movie are you most looking forward to?

SHPE Returns from Griffith Observatory

The Griffith observatory was the last stop for the SHPE JR club this past Friday. The students were amazed by the views of LA they were able to get from the observatory. They were also impressed by just how big the observatory actually was as it had two stories beneath the ground floor. Upon entering the museum student were able to see the Foucault pendulum swing from the roof. They also saw artwork surrounding the pendulum showcasing the likes of Greek/Roman gods. Heading to the left students were able to see instruments that were used and are used for space exploration. At the right wing of the observatory, students were able to learn more about space. The lunar cycle, and Earth`s seasonal cycle were two exhibits presented in the hallway leading up to the an exhibit of the sun. In that exhibit students were able to see live views of the sun along with images of the solar surface through different wavelengths on the electromagnetic spectrum.

Some other exhibits showcased here were the periodic table wired to light up the different elements that were present in the Big Bang and the Human body, along with representation of the different types of stars present in the known universe. Heading underground was a long hallway presenting the Big bang with astronomy related jewelry that was donated to the observatory. At the end of the hall way was a gigantic room split into an upper and lower deck. On the upper deck different meteorites were presented along with meteorite cradles found throughout the earth.

On the lower deck, exhibits of our solar system were showcased along with scales depicting your weight on each planet of our solar system. The wall opposite of this exhibit was the Big Picture. A tremendous exhibit that covered the entire wall. The Big Picture was two stories high and ran the length of the observatory. It was a great experience for the students to be able to see the observatory in person and for the students to gain a better analysis of astronomy.
