“We did well with our defense. By keeping our gloves down, charging the ball, being aggressive at the plate, and picking good pitches to swing at.”

Next year's Link Crew sign ups are here! Link Crew is a freshmen mentor club on campus that hosts freshmen orientations and continues with the freshmen throughout the school year. This club consists of upperclassmen who will help assist the incoming freshman with their new high school journey! All upperclassmen are welcome to sign up for this great club. Help become a role model, sign ups are due this Thursday!

"The club started in 2009 when the former principal, Ms. Ringstead, had a group of teachers trained at a Link Crew conference." She added, "Link Crew is there for every Freshman, and will give advice/support whenever Freshmen need help. The club also gives Freshmen a sense of belonging on campus, it helps the students get to know the school, and feel comfortable coming to class." - Ms. Baarstad.

Today is Denim Day
-Jessica Pena
All this week, the SHARe club has been hosting the Sexual Assault Awareness month. Today is Denim Day; it was started because of a 1992 court case where the Italian Supreme Court unjustly overturned a rape conviction. A 45-year old man was initially convicted of raping an 18-year old girl. The Italian Supreme Court stated in its decision to overturn, “it is a fact of common experience that it is nearly impossible to slip off tight jeans even partly without the active collaboration of the person who is wearing them.” The court’s misguided logic was that because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them...and by removing the jeans...it was no longer rape but consensual sex.
“Not a lot of people are dressing up for this week’s dress up days, but we have had lots of support this year. Last year, we only had a day, but denim day is actually part of a national week- Sexual Assault Awareness week. The SHARe club members wanted to do something every day of the week. We have had lots of support, like from the art department with Mr. Paulus and J.R. from security. And it’s cool to see lots of teachers getting dressed up, even the ones who don’t normally participate in school things. It’s a cool way to spread awareness and bring the school community together.” - Dr. Kristin Katz, SHARe club advisor, school psychologist.
Denim Day has become an internationally recognized day. Its purpose is to spread awareness about the erroneous and destructive attitudes toward sexual assault. This is the 2nd year that the SHARe club here at Pioneer has sponsored the event. They are joining in with the international week. The rally will be today at lunch. The SHARe members will be putting on games and distributing information. They will be assisted by their cosponsors from Rape Crisis Center.
