Keepin’ it Real 4 Youth with Disabilities

Keepin’ it Real is a youth summit created by the Independent Living Resource Center and the organization Youth Organizing! Disabled and Proud that was held on April 16th at the Eastside Library in Santa Barbara. It is to teach disabled students about living independently as well as gaining support. As someone with ADHD, I decided to attend this summit and share my experiences with you guys (I’m the one with glasses). During the summit, the speakers told us about different programs and many opportunities

for us to follow. One of the speakers was disabled and spoke in a different voice, but he was very humble. During lunch, we interacted with various gadgets and tools disabled people use such as a long-ranged magnetic stick to help you grab keys, a special kind of jar opener, a keyboard where the text on the keys are large enough for you to see, and many more. After lunch we did a group activity where we write down our future job goals and presented them to everyone. At the end of the summit, we were given prizes as well as $30 dollars just for registering! Overall this seems like a good program to visit if you have disabilities such as me. If you missed the program, you can still check out the other summit, My Future, My Vote Youth Summit on May 25th, 2016 in Sacramento. Little Moon

my little moon, you have forgotten to shine

you have forgotten

to love the tidal waves every

day

my little sunshine, you have remembered to

kiss the sky goodnight

when the little moon comes

you love

you miss

you shine the brightest glow

with the most

radiant smile you can.

my little sunshine, my little moon

remember well what you

have hated

keep them

behind your crater

keep them behind your heat.

breathe the love from under your

nose

respect touching but caress

each other until

you cannot feel your fingertips.

admire your imperfections

love each other until it hurts.

remember each other even if you kiss

other people goodnight.

my little moon. my little sunshine.
