PV's First FFA Regional Vice President

“This is not anything I would have expected as I took my first Ag class my freshman year,’’ Segura said. “It is indeed an honor and I look forward to serving as a role model in the region and as an inspiration to others in my school and community.’’

FFA Advisor and Ag Teacher Hector Guerra said Segura’s new position is a great way to showcase the talent the chapter has. “Daniel is an outstanding articulate young man who will represent Pioneer Valley FFA very well,’’ Guerra said. “The South Coast Region has been waiting for a member like him.’’

Principal Shanda Herrera agreed. “Congratulations to Daniel on this notable accomplishment,’’ Herrera said. Leadership roles are nothing new for Segura. He is presently in his second year as the VP of the school’s FFA Chapter, serves as the Sentinel at the Sectional level and is VP of the French Club. In addition, Segura finds time to participate in ASTRA (Altrusa Club - Student Group), CSF (California Scholarship Federation), runs cross-country, track and volunteers at MMC (Marian Medical Center).

Pioneer Valley High School’s Daniel Segura has been elected as the FFA Regional Vice President for the Santa Barbara Section, marking the first time a Panther has held that position in school history. The junior will be inducted at the FFA State Convention later this month. This summer, Segura plans to attend a four-day leadership retreat with other 2016-2017 South Coast Region FFA Officers.

Winter Athletics' MVP's Announced

The winter sports season has ended and our PAC-8 Athletic League (consisting of Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Mission Prep, Paso Robles, Pioneer Valley, Righetti, San Luis Obispo, and St. Joseph) has announced the athletic award winners. Many Panthers were recognized and proved that this is no easy task. Winning these awards is not only a matter of how strong or fast you are. It also takes skill, tactics, motivation as well as dedication to get them to where they are today. Here are three fellow Panthers sharing their journey to success!

Rafael Delgado was named PAC-8

Boys Wrestling Lower Weight Most Valuable Player

"I feel great about it. I worked hard, and I practiced with my partner a lot. The coaches were helping me too, I've been in wrestling for all four years of high school. Wrestling for me was a great experience. I met a lot of new people and had a great bond with my teammates. I was nervous when I found out they were announcing the award winners. My parents congratulated me and took me out for dinner. Shout out to Coach Ilac, Coach Tod, Coach Diaz, and my teammates"-Rafael Delgado (12)

Carlos Vazquez was named PAC-8

Boys Soccer Offensive Player of the Year

"I'm extremely proud of him. He scored 14 goals this season, and they were really difficult goals in difficult games. The cool thing is that he has one year left to go, and he might get a scholarship this year. He’s just a junior and he has a lot to improve on. He's not only a good athlete, but a good teammate as well. There are two UC colleges that are courting him. I thought the team played extremely well. I don't want to sound like a sore loser, but we were the better team. However, it might help us to be humble going into the next season. We need to fix the little things and learn from our mistakes, but overall it was a lot of fun. This year, we have for the first time, a freshmen team. We're building a good program, not only were they good sports but they were good academically. Go Panthers!" –Coach Brafman (Left)

"I feel glad that I made it and I'm proud of my team. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have gotten player of the year. What helped me get though this was hard work, playing against the teams, practicing hard during practice. I wanted to take it all out, and it got me to where I am today. I feel proud of myself because it's my first time being in varsity, playing were I am right now. It makes me want to become a better athlete next year. Shout put to Victor, Michael, and Joseph for being the best teammates out there and pushing me to be player of the year." -Carlos Vazquez (11; right)

Karly Beyers made PAC-8 Girls Basketball First Team

"I'm very proud of getting that award especially during my senior year. I kept working hard in every practice and throughout the year to get to where I have gotten. I have been in basketball all four years. I found out, probably like a month ago, about this award. My parents were really proud of me. My coach was also very proud of me, and a lot of it was because she would always push me to do my best. I liked that no matter what our record showed, I always worked very hard. Shout out to my family." –Karly Beyers (12)
