Spring Swim Season Opens at PV

-Interviews by Zander Moreno,

Photos by  Mireya Montiel

So, how do you think the season will go for you guys? How is the team?

"Since it's our first meet it'll be okay I guess, but it'll get better once they get through the experience of swimming. The team has been learning and we are doing our best to not get disqualified, half of the team is new so most of them just want to see what it is like; slowly we will get better as a team."

-Christina Bui (10)

"Hopefully it goes well, I mean it is pretty good for our first meet. There will be improvement in many of the swimmers.

-Mansi Kanouija (9)

"There will be lots of improvements and we will win a good chunk of our meets. The team is very generous and nice, they are very motivational. They have strong motivation for the sport they play."

-Ivy Hatter (9)

"I feel like the season will go pretty well if everyone is dedicated enough and has the drive to keep competing, everyone shows support to each other. We get along and we just goof around a lot. We have fun during practice but we work hard."

How to Avoid Peer Pressure

Peer pressure: the influence from members of one's peer group. Someone in your life has peer pressured you at least once in your life. Sometimes you don't even know they're pressuring you or vise versa. Whether it’s something harmless like positively encouraging them or worse, it can effect them in a negative way. Here are some fellow Panthers and their advice on how to avoid being peer pressured.

Local Student Artist Creates Stunning Rendition of Anonymous Teacher

Part of the beauty of art comes from the fact that it starts from a vision, and from the vision it’s transferred from artist to word, poetry, canvas, or any of the plethora of mediums out there. On February 29th, 2016, another vision of art has struck the world, and more specifically, our own Pioneer Valley High School Room 205.

-Lorenz Dodson

This piece, entitled, “Power of the Magistrate” depicts a man with a flowing mane, and an unkempt, yet classy goatee. He’s adorned with an elaborate suit whilst wearing a stern face. He also has a lightsaber in his left hand, which is super duper cool.

They say that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and although it might be subjective for some works of “art” it is apparent that this is beautiful to everyone. This level of artistry might be comparable to such greats as Michelangelo’s paintings on the Sistine Chapel, Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, or Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

The artist was able to fit in a short interview with us into his busy schedule.

So who is this drawing supposed to depict?

Well part of the reason this picture is so ambiguous is because I want the viewer to be able to see who THEY want to see as the magistrate. He (or she) can be seen as any teacher.

What inspired you to create this work of art?

I was just sitting in Mr. Howard’s class when it came to. It was as if a thousand angels had descended upon the room and guided me. They used my hands as a vessel to create this work of pure heaven.

Is there anymore on the way?

I actually have two more pieces back at the

studio that are currently being worked on.

Keep your eyes peeled for more!
