The NEA and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with the state arts agencies of the United States to support Poetry Out Loud. Since it was piloted in 2005, Poetry Out Loud has grown to include millions of students across the country. Champions from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico compete at the National Finals in Washington, DC, each spring.

Candice Corpuz Wins ASB Presidential Election

-Story & Photo by Nestor Lopez

It was a tough campaign for those juniors hoping to be named ASB President for their senior year. From chalk advertisements to t-shirts, the three candidates tried their best to win the coveted position.  Each candidate gave a speech Thursday stating their views hoping to sway some voters to their side. From the three candidates, only one was able to achieve the prestigious title. Candice Corpuz, was able to acquire a majority of the votes and was named president this past Friday after lunch.

“When Ms. Walters came onto the intercom and announced the new 2016-2017 ASB President, I have to admit I was nervous and shaking while I was walking to class. I was telling myself in my head that it would be okay if I did not get the position. When she said my name, I was shocked and felt relieved.”

“As President, I look forward to a successful 2016-2017 school year. I hope to utilize all the resources I can to be able to help all students influence one another to help improve our school together.”

On the bright side all 14 members of our varsity boys team qualified for the CIF individual tournament. Out of those 14, 8 were in the finals and 5 came out league champions:
