Marcos Memorial Rally Scheduled for Today at Lunch

"Well Marcos, I'm going to miss you. We got really close during junior high. We'd always get in trouble in class for talking. We have memories together that will never fade away. Man, you were one of my closest friends, and I consider you a brother. I promise I'll never forget you. Me and all your friends are going to be at your house this weekend to have your candle lighting. I hope you can see it from wherever you are now. I know that it's a better place. Everybody's going to miss you. Our memories of you will stay with us forever. We had some crazy times, some fun times, and even some bad ones, but I'll always treasure them. I can't believe you're actually gone. The same day, I was helping you out with work in class and messing around with you in PE. All of our classes feel empty without you. I still remember every morning in 8th grade always waiting for you to get off the bus so that we can hang out with our friends. I love you man, and everyone's going to miss you. You'll always be in our hearts. Rest in peace Marcos.” –Anonymous

"I was fortunate enough to have Marcos in my Health Science class. There was not a day that did not go by that he didn’t make me laugh. He was a real character. Towards the end of the period, he would start to go from one group of students to another group, and they too would laugh. Marcos was a very special young man who will be greatly missed. Marcos, and his infectious smile and laughter, made me a better person."  –Mr. Glenn

“Marcos was a great kid and will be dearly missed. He didn’t deserve to die the way he did; he didn’t deserve to die at all. He was such a happy, awesome and funny kid. He knew how to put a smile on someone’s face even if they were mad at him. He had a lot of friends, everyone had to have at least one or more great moments with Marcos, he was such an outgoing boy. It’s sad we won’t be able to see his big ol’ smile anymore, but he’s looking over us.” –Anonymous

“Marcos was a good friend he was the kind of person that would cheer people up with the things he would do! I had pretty fun memories with Marcos. I remember this one time when he was dancing all weird and the teacher told him to stop but he kept dancing because he knew he was going to be in trouble anyways! I trusted Marcos completely he was there for me whenever I needed him! It’s sad that he is gone at a young age; I just wish I could have said goodbye! Rest in paradise Marcos, I’ll always have you with me.” –Anonymous

“I remember when I first met him, he was all quiet, then we started hanging out more, always chillin, always making us laugh; you were like a bro to me. Always had good memories, we were always kicking it at school. I know you had my back and I had yours, I’m gonna miss you g, I always am, I love you bro.” –Anonymous

“I just can’t believe you’re gone Marcos. I still remember back in 7th grade when we would hang out. Haha those were the days! When you would ask me for advice for girls, then I was there when you asked her out. I miss that sparkle in your eyes. I didn’t even get to say bye. Everything isn’t the same without you. Pony, everyone misses you. I miss you. I’d do anything to have you back and change the last conversation we had. Rest in paradise. I love you Marcos.” –Anonymous

"I am deeply saddened by the death of one of my students. Marcos was in my Earth Science class this year. He was so young and had much life left to live. When I think about Marcos' sudden death, it makes me realize how short life is. I have spent a lot of time reflecting on what are the really important things in life. Walking into may classroom and seeing the student's who's lives have been so impacted by Marcos' death, I have learned two things. One is the value of friendship--supporting each other the way we are. The other most important thing is time. We do not know how long someone we love (or even just someone we see everyday) will be a part of our life. We need to value the time we share with each other by being present in the moment. RIP Marcos." -Ms. Stieger

Let's Go To SLO

-Christina Bulosan & Madison Skaufel

San Luis Obispo: the "Happiest Place On Earth." San Luis Obispo is also known as "SLO" or "SLO Town" for residents living in and near the city. Because of Cal Poly and Cuesta College, SLO can be considered a college town. With this, brings a young, creative, and active vibe throughout the city. The giant, great, green hills surrounding San Luis, and the many buildings compacted together, gives the city the feel of an urban oasis. SLO, in depth, has many popular stores such as Apple, Victoria's Secret, and Urban Outfitters. For Snapchat users, there are banners for SLO when you're around town to share with your friends! This may attract many people, but so does the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. The Spanish mission was founded in 1772 by Father Serra. There are many people that visit their religious side of them here. Not only does it have an urban environment, but also has a rural side to it. Because SLO is also famous for the Nine Sisters, "a stunning string of volcanic peaks stretching from Morro Bay across San Luis Obispo," there are many hiking trails with incredible views of the beach, the city, and the hills, Bishop's Peak being the most famous (with its height of 1,559 feet). SLO is about 32.8 miles away from Santa Maria, making it a 33 minute drive. Go ahead and fill up your gas tank, grab your friends, and swing on by!

Yearbook Sales End This Week!

“Hurry up and buy your yearbooks!” – Jessica Pena, Editor in Chief/President, “I cried and it took up most of my social life, so buy it.”

“We slaved for this, don’t make our social deaths meaningless” – Nestor Lopez, Portraits Editor/ Vice President.

“So much hard work and time was taken to make the yearbook for everyone at the school. It was made with a lot of school spirit and eye catching pictures. We as a whole class would appreciate it very much if everyone tried to buy their yearbook.” –Aliyeah Navarro, Student Life Editor

“Honestly guys, go buy your yearbook. We’ve worked waaayyy too hard for you guys and ladies not to buy one. It’s always worth it. Unless you’ve hated your high school experience. That’s cool then. Sorry.” – Guiselle Aguilar, Clubs Editor/ Secretary

-Vanessa Nunez & Jessica Pena

Maria Eufracio, 12, “I’ll be buying a yearbook because it's my senior year and I’ve gotten one every year since I was a freshman. I'll be able to look back and remember all the fun times I had throughout this year. I expect to see more pictures of the day to day of life as a panther and teachers and everyone.”

The time has come to buy your yearbook. January 31 is the final day to purchase your yearbook at only $95. The yearbook, like always, comes with a copy of the After Effect. The yearbook includes senior baby pictures, the senior panoramic photo, all sports, homecoming, clubs, friends and family, Prom, and so much more! The yearbook is the only place you can find everything that happened at PVHS this school year. It’s The Effect’s number one goal to include everyone, and we feel like we will reach it this year. The yearbook is for everyone. We encourage you to buy it. Years from now you’ll find it in the back of your closet and open it up and look through the old photographs and remember. You’ll remember your life here, your friends, the stories. You’ll smile and be grateful you bought it. You can’t put a price on memories.
